Assistant General Counsel/Human Resources Consultant - Midwest

Remote - Illinois-based

This position will be a part of the HR Consultant/Assistant General Counsel team that assists Engage PEO clients. The HR Consultant/Assistant General Counsel will report directly to the Human Resources Director. Duties include (but are not limited to) primary HR interface with business clients regarding employee relations, human resources and compliance issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary HR interface to business clients regarding employee relations, human resources and compliance issues
  • Coordinate with clients and Human Resources and Account Management teams to create and deliver comprehensive HR solutions to our clients
  • Develop, draft and implement policies, procedures and agreements for a variety of human resources and employment related issues
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential compliance problems as they pertain to employment matters
  • Develop strategies to reduce potential areas of risk
  • Assist with oversight of employment litigation matters, including management of EPLI panel counsel
  • Ability to negotiate and draft agreements, as appropriate
  • research and draft documents related regarding employment law updates
  • Regularly conduct employment-related investigations
  • Regularly present human resources and compliance trainings
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with others
  • Productively work from home with minimal supervision
  • Engage in significant client interaction
  • Complete required domestic travel, majority of which in Midwest
  • NO billable-hour requirement

Required Knowledge and Skills 

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in Illinois
  • Strong research and writing skills regarding employment-law issues
  • Outstanding interpersonal and consulting skills
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and individually
  • Ability to prioritize and execute deliverables in a fast-paced environment
  • Must possess superb Excel skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office Applications
  • Ability to learn quickly and having excellent memory retention due to the amount of detail involved
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate an open-minded, team-oriented, and collaborative work style
  • Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions
  • Extremely detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in litigation and/or Illinois employment law experience; or, a combination thereof
  • ClientSpace and PrismHR knowledge is a plus
  • Additional multistate, especially IN, MI, MN and WI employment law experience preferred
  • Experience handling employment-related audits and drafting agency responses
  • Additional proficiency in another language
