Should Employers Monitor Employee Smartphones?

In the saga now known as “deflategate,” New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was slapped with a four-game suspension for violating the NFL policy on the integrity of the game. Brady’s refusal to hand over his private cell phone to investigators did not sit well with the league.

But what about the private communications of the non-celebrity athlete - the average worker: a staff accountant, restaurant server, or sales manager?
