Alex Nadal

Alex is an assistant general counsel and human resources consultant at Engage.

Alex assists Engage clients in Florida and across the country with a wide range of labor and employment issues.

Before coming on board with Engage, Alex practiced employment law litigation with a firm in Miami, Florida where she managed a heavy caseload involving complex employment law matters, including class actions and collective actions for both Plaintiffs and Defendants, and assisted lead counsel during jury trials in both State and Federal Courts.

Alex earned a Bachelor of Arts from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, and a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School.

Alex Pisani

Alex oversees legal affairs and strategic business partnerships for Engage PEO. This includes legal compliance, business development and sales management responsibilities. He also oversees the management of unemployment claims for Engage clients. 

Prior to joining Engage’s executive team, Alex held numerous senior roles in the HR outsourcing and PEO industries, managing legal affairs and corporate and commercial transactions. He also has counseled clients across industries on compliance matters, corporate transactions, licensing, and state unemployment tax planning.

Alex earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and a Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University.

Angela Rochester

Angela is an assistant general counsel and human resources consultant for Engage.

Angela assists Engage clients in the Midwest and across the country with a wide range of labor and employment issues.

Before joining the Engage team, Angela was in-house counsel at a pharmaceutical company where she handled HR compliance matters. Prior to that, she was an associate at the Littler law firm, and at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP where she represented companies in the airline, food and beverage, hospitality, retail and financial industries in a wide range of labor and employment disputes, as well as general commercial litigation matters.

Angela earned a Bachelor of Arts from California State University at Fullerton and a Juris Doctor from the Northeastern School of Law.

Cameron Keir

Cameron is the senior risk manager for Engage. With more than 25 years of experience in workers’ compensation, claims management and occupational safety and health, he works closely with Engage clients to implement loss control and risk mitigation programs. He has held senior roles creating and directing safety initiatives for various organizations. Most recently, Cameron served as the director of employee safety for a large health care system where he successfully implemented an award-winning “zero accident culture."

Cameron earned a B.S. in Industrial Technology/Occupation Health from Central Connecticut State University and an M.S. in Industrial Hygiene from the University of New Haven. He is multi-certified in the areas of safety and risk.

Camille Cooper

Camille Cooper is an assistant general counsel and human resources consultant for Engage.

Camille serves Engage clients in Texas and across the country with a wide range of labor and employment issues.

Prior to joining Engage, Camille practiced labor and employment, and commercial law both as a sole practitioner and for several national law firms including Jones Day and Littler Mendelson. She has represented clients in arbitration, mediation and trial matters, and negotiated settlements in response to EEOC, NLRB, and state agency charges of discrimination and unfair labor practices. Additionally, Camille was the assistant general counsel for a global software company where she served as advisor to human resources, finance, compliance and management staff regarding labor and employment matters. She also managed outside counsel and oversaw all aspects of litigation and conducted comprehensive training for management on employment and compliance matters.

Before starting her law career in 2006, Camille was a member of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 2001 to 2004.

Camille received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law.

Debra Johnson

Debra is an assistant general counsel and human resources consultant for Engage.

Debra works with Engage clients in Texas and across the country, providing guidance on a wide range of labor and employment issues.

A licensed attorney and accomplished human resources professional, Debra has a decade of experience advising clients in employment law matters and human resource policies and practices. Prior to joining Engage, Debra served in various roles of increasing responsibility for the Houston Independent School District. Her work included leading performance and continuous improvement programs, including the administration of employee appraisal and development systems. Debra also oversaw teacher contracts and other policy standards, and trained supervisors on the resolution of grievances, the Texas Education Administration (TEA) hearing process, and progressive discipline, among other human resource and employment law topics. 

Debra received a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University and a Juris Doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

Denise Stefan

In her role as President, Denise leads strategic planning efforts for Engage Insurance, LLC and directs the company in fulfilling its mission of providing stable, cost-effective insurance solutions to Engage clients.  

Denise is an accomplished insurance industry executive with more than twenty years of leadership experience, including unique PEO carrier expertise. Prior to joining Engage, Denise served as the PEO market head for Aetna’s national accounts division where she was responsible for the sales, finance, regulatory and account service aspects of Aetna’s PEO business segment. Aetna is Engage’s long-time health insurance partner. Denise also led various small and middle market sales and account management teams for Aetna in Connecticut and Florida, and served as vice president of sales and strategic development for a national vision and dental carrier, Advantica Eyecare.

Denise received her master's degree in business administration from the University of Connecticut as well as a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Connecticut School of Business. She is a licensed life and health insurance agent and a former member of the board of directors for Easter Seals Tampa Bay and a current board member of The Other Side of the Dunes, a nonprofit organization that supports wounded veterans.

Jay Starkman

Jay is the founder and CEO of Engage PEO.

In 2011, after more than two decades marked by substantial achievement within and outside of the PEO industry, Jay set out to build a new kind of PEO where quality service would be the driving focus of everything. That PEO is Engage. Today, Engage is one of the fastest growing companies in the country.

Before forming Engage, Jay was president and CEO of AlphaStaff, a PEO which he grew from a small player to a top five industry leader. The then fastest growing PEO under his leadership, Jay sold the company in 2008 to a private equity group, creating a large return on investment for company shareholders. Jay also previously served as president and CEO of OneChem, a software application provider to the chemical industry.  

In addition to his corporate leadership success, Jay had a distinguished legal career, serving as the managing partner of his own firm, which specialized in employment and commercial law, arguing seminal cases as high as the United States Supreme Court. Jay served as a member of the board of directors of ESAC (Employee Services Assurance Corporation), the accrediting body for the PEO industry. He also served on the board of the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO).

Jay has received numerous awards in recognition of his business accomplishments, including the Gold Stevie® Award for Executive of the Year in the 2015 American Business Awards. He also received Florida’s Top Entrepreneur Award from Florida Business Leader; named HRO Top Superstar by HRO Today, and a Florida TrendSetter by Florida Trend. A frequent writer and expert commentator on a wide range of HR and legal compliance issues, Jay is a contributing writer for The American City Business Journals, Employee Benefits News, Insurance Advocate, and other HR and insurance industry publications.

Julie Cirillo

Julie is the vice president of risk management for Engage. She is a seasoned veteran in the workers’ compensation industry, with close to 20 years of experience in workers’ compensation litigation, claims management and risk management. She is a former workers’ compensation defense attorney and has held multiple senior roles in management, claims, loss prevention, risk management and sales. 

Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Carolina-Columbia and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Midge Seltzer

Midge is co-founder and executive vice president of Engage PEO. She is responsible for two key areas of the Engage organization: 1-  HR delivery, which includes Engage's HR Managers/Assistant General Counsels, and 2- Engage's Risk Management department. 

A recognized leader in the PEO industry, Midge is the former president and chief operating officer of Modern Business Associates (MBA), Inc., an HRO company. She also has served in a number of leadership roles of distinction within the PEO community including: past chairperson of the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO); past chair of the NAPEO Legal Advisory Council; chairperson of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Board of Employee Leasing Companies, and former vice president of the Florida Association of Professional Employer Organizations (FAPEO). 

A frequent author and speaker on human resources and labor and employment issues, Midge began her career practicing international law as a litigator and transactional attorney in Miami, Florida and has extensive experience in corporate, regulatory and labor and employment law.

Midge earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law.

Ralph Labarta

In his role as Engage PEO’s Chief Technology Officer, Ralph oversees the company’s technology and process innovation, including all customer-facing technology services.

Ralph is a highly experienced senior technology executive. He has led technology operations and strategy and major product development initiatives for a national PEO as well as for leading companies in the chemical and energy industries. He was CIO and executive vice president of technology for OneChem, a software application provider to the chemical industry, and held various senior technology management positions for Norsk Hydro, a global oil, gas, and aluminum producer. Ralph began his career with Andersen Consulting as a senior technology consultant.

Ralph received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Florida and earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Florida.

Robert Dominguez

Robert Dominguez is an assistant general counsel and human resources consultant for Engage.

As part of the Engage HR team, Robert delivers comprehensive HR solutions for Engage’s California clients. He has represented employers in California on litigation matters and counseled them on HR related issues and changes in the law, such as California’s new Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act.

Robert earned a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School.

Sadiqa (Sadie) Banks

Sadie is an assistant general counsel and human resources consultant for Engage. Sadie serves Engage clients in Georgia and across the country with a wide range of labor and employment issues.

Before joining the Engage team, Sadie represented a diverse group of clients in labor and employment disputes, specializing in Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) matters. Her practice area centered upon litigating, investigating, and consulting on EEO issues involving both private and public sector employees. Sadie has extensive knowledge of Family and Medical Leave Act matters and comprehensive experience as a managing attorney, handling complex resolutions through private and federal agency mediation. In addition, Sadie has handled employment discrimination matters including ADA, ADEA, Title VII and sexual harassment claims, representing individuals and corporate clients. Notably, she also served as a judicial intern for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Sadie received a bachelor’s degree from City University of New York–John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University–Thurgood Marshall School of Law School of Law.

Vanessa Matsis-McCready

Vanessa is an assistant general counsel and human resources consultant for Engage.

Vanessa assists Engage clients in the Northeast and across the country with a wide range of labor and employment issues. Before joining the Engage team, Vanessa was an employee relations manager at the Suffolk County Water Authority where she managed 500+ employees; she also previously handled HR compliance issues for Time Inc. and was an associate at the law firm, Kaye Scholer LLP where she represented financial institutions in all aspects of commercial real estate financing.

Vanessa earned a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and a Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law.
